Creating a Functional Living Space

When it came to designing and decorating our new house, we had specific visions: an open concept and abundant natural light.

Distinctive features accentuating this living space include the buffet table positioned behind the couch, a custom kennel cover, and the budget-friendly curtains I crafted myself.

The buffet table, a treasured gift from my parents, underwent a revamp. Its aged yet charming imperfections inspired me to refinish it. I sanded it down to its natural wood, which, although beautiful, didn’t align with my style. Opting for spray paint—a personal preference for its even finish—I coated it in basic white, courtesy of Lowes. A couple of coats later, it found its place in our home, devoid of a finishing clear coat, as I felt it unnecessary.

Our kennel cover, a solution for our sizable dogs’ crates, was custom-made to match our furniture. Crafted by a talented friend, it transformed a plain metal crate into a functional and aesthetically pleasing table for decorations.

Then came the curtains—an inaugural addition to my home décor repertoire. Thrifty as I am, I opted for Ikea curtain rods, Walmart clips, and simple white twin flat sheets. A cost-effective solution resulting in a sophisticated look for less than $30 per window.

In the accompanying pictures, noteworthy items enhancing our daily lives include:

  1. 1. Tineco Vacuum/Mop: A game-changer that effortlessly vacuums and mops simultaneously. Essential for our country living, it handles dirt and constant foot traffic effortlessly.

  2. 2. iRobot Vacuum: Our dependable companion in keeping up with the mess generated by kids and pets. Its self-cleaning feature and ability to resume cleaning post-emptied dirt tray make it invaluable.

  3. 3. Teddie’s Dog Bed: A washable, comfortable, and visually appealing bed for our furry companion. Despite numerous washes, it retains its shape and softness, earning Teddie’s seal of approval.”
